Through this partnership program, we hope to inform and educate others of the contributions made to Canada by these Scottish Immigrant Children.
Our millennium project is made up of the following segments:
a 30 minute video of interviews with surviving children who are now in their 80's and 90's. This video will be broadcast on both Vision TV and TV Ontario as part of their Living History Series. It will also be distributed to schools by TV Ontario and Prentice Hall Canada. The Brockville Museum and Quarriers Canadian Family will also have copies available for viewing.
A book will be published which will include photographic portraits of the children interviewed in the filming. In addition to these portraits, other photographs provided by our members which document the arrival of these children in Canada and their lives in rural areas and small towns. The book when completed will be approximately 200 pages and will be made available through Quarriers Canadian Family and/or the publisher.
All material gathered will be formed into an exhibit which will enhance the existing exhibit already on display at the Brockville Museum. This exhibit will be officially opened at a Quarriers Canadian Family event. Almost 7,000 children passed through Brockville on their way to "placements". Fairknowe Home, purchased by William Quarrier for this purpose, still stands in the city, albeit as an apartment block. A "mirror" exhibit will also be created which will be available to schools, libraries and other museums.
Portions of the project will be used to enhance our existing web site.
